IMAG Conference on Orthogonal Polynomials,

Special Functions and Applications - OPSFA17

Granada (Spain) June 24 - 28, 2024
Dedicated to André Ronveaux (1932-2023) and Pascal Maroni (1933-2024)

The IMAG Conference on Orthogonal Polynomials, Special Functions and Applications OPSFA17 will take place from June 24 to 28, 2024, in Granada, Spain.

This Conference is dedicated to André Ronveaux (June 19, 1932 - December 31, 2023). and Pascal Maroni (January 17, 1933 - January 16, 2024), who promoted the first OPSFA Conference in Bar-le-Duc in 1984, jointly with Claude Brezinski, André Draux, and Alfonse Magnus. We will dedicate a Special Session to the history of Orthogonal Polynomials, with Claude Brezinski as invited speaker.

Granada is a well-worth visiting destination in the South of Spain, and offers a large number of iconic landmarks, some of which are UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

The Institute of Mathematics of the University of Granada IMAG will support the organization of the conference. The conference venue will be the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Granada.

This conference provides a forum for mathematicians, physicists, and computational scientists to communicate recent research results in the areas of orthogonal polynomials and special functions. It encourages and supports the exchange of information, ideas, and techniques between researchers in these fields and other mathematicians and scientists. In the frame of this IMAG Conference, the SIAM activity group on Orthogonal Polynomials and Special Functions will give the Gábor Szegö Prize, which is awarded every two years, to an early-career researcher for outstanding research contributions in the area.

The group on Orthogonality and Applications of the University of Granada (GOYA) promotes basic research in Orthogonal Polynomials and Special Functions, as well as applications of this subject in other areas of mathematics, science and industry. The IMAG is one of the most prominent mathematical institutions in Spain and a very important source of scientific research, it was awarded with the Excellence Seal “María de Maeztu'' for the period 2022-2025, and in 2022 IMAG became an associated center of the Banff International Research Station (BIRS), participating in the organization of international congresses in top level areas of Mathematics.

More information about the conference will be provided in due time. All interested colleagues are cordially invited to attend this meeting.
